The Scented Life: All about fragrance

The best gift set for new mommies, period!

I’m not too familiar with Kiehl’s baby line, but I love their line for grownups, and this set is just so lovely.  For mom, there’s

Creme de Corps - a superb all-over body moisturizer, ideal for extremely dry skin;
“Lavender” Hand and Body Lotion - a silky, lightweight lotion for hands and body that leaves skin soft and smooth;
Body Massage Oil - an elegant blend of the finest moisturizing oils ideal for use as a body massage or emollient moisturizing oil;
Lip Balm #1 - our classic formula helps soothe and protect delicate lip area skin;
Lavender Foaming-Relaxing Bath with Sea Salts and Aloe - a soothing and relaxing bath experience that helps maintain optimal skin condition.
And for the little one:

Kiehl’s Baby Diaper Rash Ointment - gently treats rash, protects chafed skin, and helps seal out wetness;
Kiehl’s Baby Lip Balm - our pediatrician-tested, emollient formula with soothing sweet berries;
Kiehl’s Baby Nurturing Cream for Face and Body - a gentle formulation that moisturizes and soothe baby’s delicate skin leaving it smooth and soft;
Kiehl’s Baby Gentle Foaming Hair and Body Wash - minimizes drying of baby’s skin for a gentle cleansing of hair, scalp and all over body.

It’s $149 at Kiehls.com but even for that high price it’s a pretty good deal - all the products are fullsize!

    Perfume of the Day: Givenchy Very Irresistible Summer Cocktail

    Usually Escada seems to have cornered the market on summery, limited edition scents. Givenchy’s certainly giving everyone else a run for their money in that regard. This one’s a must-sniff based on the Star Anise notes alone. Mint and rose is an unexpected combo but it works.

    Notes: Star Anise, Mint Leaves, Centifolia Rose, Peony Rose, Fantasia Rose, Passion Rose, Emotion Rose, Verbena Leaf.

    Buy Givenchy Very Irresistible Summer Cocktail $52 for 2.5 oz at Sephora.

    There is also a men’s version: notes include Star Anise, Mint Leaf, Peppermint, Lavender, Grand Vert Basil, Green Cardamon. I can’t do basil most times but I’m still going to check it out. Sounds positively refreshing!

    Hanae Mori Butterfly Eau Fraiche

    About four years ago, Hanae Mori’s Butterfly was my signature scent. It’s comforting, wearable, and yummy without being too young or simple. I’m going to have to find Butterfly Eau Fraiche as soon as possible! It’s at Sephora now, for a limited time.  $65 for 3.4 oz

    Notes:
    Mandarin Wood, Grapefruit, Strawberry, Black Currant, Bulgarian Rose, Ylang-Ylang, Jasmine, Peony, Blackberry, Blueberry, Rosewood, Almond wood, Sandalwood, Cedarwood.

    Perfume of the Day: Gap So Pink

    Perfumes sold at popular clothing stores like Gap, Old Navy, and American Eagle are often a young woman’s first foray into fragrance.  As such, this scent like many others is designed to be fresh, wearable, and youthful.  So Pink meets all of these marks but is otherwise fairly bland.  It starts out smelling like nothing other than pink lemonade, and does morph into an interesting grapefruit and rose combination.  The notes listed on Gap’s website are grapefruit, lily, and sweet pea, but I really do get rose instead.  I do prefer it to scents sold at other retail stores like Victoria’s Secret.  It’s quite inexpensive at $22 for 3.4 oz.  Purchase it at Gap.com.

    New Montale perfumes at LuckyScent

    Try not to go broke after reading this, but there are SIX new fragrances from Montale….my personal “must try” is Mukhallat.  I love me some Turkish Delight, and I’m sure his take on it is just wonderful.  Oud scents are so intriguing and hard for me to wear despite the fact that I love wood notes in general.  They really capture the essences of the middle east, so if you love exotics, run to try this brand!

    Hilary Duff Wrapped with Love

    How is it Hilary Duff has managed to avoid nude pictures, questionable photoshoots, pregnancies, rehab, and all the rest of the trappings that seem to come with being a young, fresh-faced starlet these days? I don’t know how she does it, but she does all that and manages to put her name on perfumes, too. Her newest, Wrapped with Love, is full of fruits, with a white floral and clean musk base. It does come off as quite young but surprised me with the lasting power. It has a marshmallow-y note that doesn’t really please me, but this does settle down after a few minutes. The full description from her website:

    “Reminiscent of Hilary’s favorite things, the fragrance offers up an absolutely irresistible white mousse chocolate note, wrapped in a combination of milk and vanilla beans…..

    …highlighted by sun-kissed raspberries. Hilary radiates youthful energy, so hints of citrus are paired with iced honeydew and delicate floral notes.

    The notes in Wrapped With Love were inspired by Hilary’s fun and flirtatious side. The result is a delectable fragrance with a signature scent — a soft background showcasing sweet notes.”

    You could do a LOT worse shopping for celeb perfumes.  The price is right - $38 for 1.7 oz at Macy’s.

    Lacoste Dream of Pink

    Lacoste Dream of Pink

    photo: Sephora.com

    This limited edition perfume is “inspired by the power of dreams”? If you dream of raspberry iced tea, maybe so. This is an interesting, light scent with not a lot of “oomph” behind it. I think it’s more appropriate for teens or very casual settings. The bottle is kind of clunky, and sports the lacoste logo and fades from darker pink at the bottom to light at the top. The notes are: Sweet Red Berries, Iced Tea, Lotus Flower, Rose, Sandalwood, Musk. Buy  Lacoste Dream of Pink eau de parfum at Sephora, $52 for 1oz.

    April Roundup - Beauty & Style Channel

    I’ll admit that I don’t get a chance to read all the blogs I want to (heck, sometimes I don’t even have a chance to write mine) so I love this collection of links.  It gives a picture of all the interesting topics we’re chatting about here in B&S.

    May is almost here but before we get to to it, let’s reminisce what has happened here at Beauty & Style Channel in the month of April. Have some Martini, wine, or shots with lemon and salt on the side, have fun perusing the beauteous and stylish abode under b5media.

    What’s your lucky perfume or cologne?

    Lucky You Cologne

    photo: target.com

    I have a HUGE presentation tomorrow - not size-wise, but it’s very important to my education.  If I do well, I get to finally say I have a Master’s degree.  If I don’t…it means a lot more work for me.  So I want to do really well, and that includes looking and smelling my best.  I was thinking about my lucky pedicure color, and of course, I need a lucky perfume!  I remembered I have a small bottle of Lucky You cologne by Liz Claiborne.  It’s a great, clean and sporty.  The women’s perfume is softer and flirtier, and I actually prefer the men’s version.  Just the thing to help me feel focused and confident!

    You can purchase a big 3.4 oz sprayer for only $29.99 at Target.com.
