Usually Escada seems to have cornered the market on summery, limited edition scents. Givenchy’s certainly giving everyone else a run for their money in that regard. This one’s a must-sniff based on the Star Anise notes alone. Mint and rose is an unexpected combo but it works.
Notes: Star Anise, Mint Leaves, […]

About four years ago, Hanae Mori’s Butterfly was my signature scent. It’s comforting, wearable, and yummy without being too young or simple. I’m going to have to find Butterfly Eau Fraiche as soon as possible! It’s at Sephora now, for a limited time. $65 for 3.4 oz
Notes:
Mandarin Wood, Grapefruit, Strawberry, Black Currant, […]

Try not to go broke after reading this, but there are SIX new fragrances from Montale….my personal “must try” is Mukhallat. I love me some Turkish Delight, and I’m sure his take on it is just wonderful. Oud scents are so intriguing and hard for me to wear despite the fact that I love wood […]

Oh, man - I found this news story and it was just too great. The guy’s mug shot is classic too. In short, he tried to rob a video rental/tanning salon with a bottle of Stetson shaped like a gun. While I gotta admire his creativity, the bad thing is even using an item that […]

Perfume critic for the NYT, Chandler Burr, has given Gucci Envy perfume 5 stars. Read his review of the 1997 perfume here. I’m a fan of “Envy Me” but the green-ness is just a little lean for my body chemistry. A choice quote:

The British reality-pop star Leona Lewis has reportedly been offered head-turning sums of cash to endorse a perfume. Celebrity scents, as we all know, are everywhere. But Ms. Lewis says that she’d rather concentrate on her music…for now. I miss out a bit on the brit-tabloid stars with their own perfumes (WTF Jordan?) but she […]

I thought this article in the Dallas Morning News was a great analysis on how perfumery and perfume criticism have changed in the past few years. Of course, it would have been even better if she’d name checked ME… but I’m very glad that people realize some perfumes are just BAD, not just “not for […]

Forget tupperware parties - some hip ladies in the Washington, DC area are having perfume parties instead. Kind of like a visit to The Body Shop back in the day, where you could make any product according to the scents you chose, Catherine Javier-Wong will blend them up at one of her Urban Botanic parties. […]

I’ll be on Virginia This Morning once again, this time discussing the subject nearest and dearest to my heart - perfumery! I’ll be telling the story of how Modern Atelier got started, giving a quick rundown on how perfumes are made, and we’ll actually be blending a scent right on stage so anything could happen! […]
