New perfume of the day: Valentino Rock ‘N Rose
Valentino is fresh off a successful retrospective fashion show, and the new Rock ‘N Rose is part of his continued success. Florals, and rose in particular, have been around as long as perfume itself. And in the past ten years, the floral + (fruity floral, especially) category has been quite saturated with mediocre and forgettable scents. Yet at Nordstrom recently, I was excited to find a tester of Rock ‘N Rose perfume. I was even more excited to find that it worked well with my chemistry - rose notes are a gamble sometimes, and orris root based perfume even more so. But I loved the rose and cassis combination, grounded in sandalwood and vanilla. I thought it was very fresh and had a decent (but not intoxicating or memorable) drydown. It felt like a “between” kind of fragrance. Not your signature, but one to perhaps rebound to between long term relationships with a more complex perfume. Try some at a local perfume counter or take the plunge at Sephora - 1.6 oz is $58.
A fragrance inspired by the modern woman, who combines a rock ‘n roll attitude with elegance and style - she is a rose on the outside and a rocker on the inside. Rock ‘n Rose strikes the perfect balance between edgy modernity and Valentino’s elegance and tradition.
Notes:
Bergamot, Black Currant, Crunch Green, Orange Blossom, Gardenia, Muguet, Rose, Sandalwood, Orris, Musky Notes, Vanilla, Heliotrope.
