Perfume of the Day: Ange ou Demon
I got a sample of Ange ou Demon when it first came out, in a Sephora order. I kind of brushed it aside thinking I wouldn’t like it, but made myself really try it today, and it’s surprisingly good for me. It’s described as an Oriental/Floral, with notes of lily and oakwood. It really goes through a lot of iterations on my skin, from sweet to herbal, woody, and floral. The drydown is more troublesome and I get the mineral/plastic notes. I’m not sure if I could use a whole bottle but I enjoyed it a lot. $68-90 at Nordstrom.
The top note surges with the unexpected elegance of mandarin orange from Calabria, followed closely by a fresh essence of white thyme and then a sparkling note from essence of saffron, spicy yet gentle.
The heart reveals itself like a forbidden treasure. Luminous and carnal, the lily expresses impressive femininity. Maxillaria orchid and ylang ylang add exotic, heady, rapturous sensations.
The base is dominated by uniquely dense oak wood absolute, joined by palisander wood for an unexpected and indefinably creamy, mineral effect. Finally, intimate and dreamlike vanilla and tonka bean wrap the unresolved enigma in a halo of immaterial sensuality.
The bottle is a chiseled glass jewel in the form of a pendant, clear at the base with a dark top. The mystery remains intact, protected by the diaphanous yet secret geometry of the glass.
