Perfume of the Day - Biehl Parfumkunstwerke AL01
This scent references any number of insipid floral perfumes I’ve come across in my past. And yet, this scent does right by me while so many others have disappointed. Like a watercolor canvas dripping with fresh cut flowers, upon applying this it is as if I have been brushed floral. They bloom and then give way to something quite classic, a light aldehyde with clean freesia. The drydown is a sandalwood, musk and soapy. I was really, truly blown away by this and applaud. Mr. Landi for his composition.

Cannes. Manolos. Elegance. Femme totale…is the way biehl parfumkunstwerke describe Arturo Landi’s first scent for the line, and we can’t help but agree. Al01 is pure refinement, feminine from top to base notes in that nonchalantly sophisticated manner that is so hard to achieve. The dazzling, juicy greenness of galbanum delicately sweetened by pineapple and peach hints at wonders yet to come, at notes and accords that are bound to delight lovers of classic chypres. The floral complexity of the middle stage, creamy with ylang, green and slightly smoky with narcissus, gives way to the glorious base of oakmoss and ambergris; the earthy, gracefully animalic blend warmed up by sandalwood and softened by iris. Opulent and complex, al01 is truly a modern classic and a rare species at that, a chypre! It comes with our highest recommendations.
