Perfume of the Day: Biehl Parfumkunstwerke - eo01
Taking in the first moments of this scent is like standing on the sidewalk in front of two stores. One is a middle eastern grocery that sells spices, rosewater, and tobacco. Next door is an equally old-fashioned confectioner, with candied apricots, oranges, and dustings of coconut. Together it’s a soulful, heady mix likely to sweep you off your feet. I highly recommend it if you’re looking for romance right around Valentine’s Day. Iris tends to go overly powdery on me but the spice and vanilla notes keep it grounded and warm. This perfume, plus an Otis Redding album, are a nearly surefire recipe for love. I love the ‘dark’ notes that are naughty but not overtly sexy. I found myself comparing it to Dior Addict (original) which I was intrigued by but did not like enough to wear. On the drydown I get a lot of the cedar and styrax, a hint of the pimiento and still the spices. But no vetiver.

So when we heard that Oelkers created a woody-oriental fragrance for biehl parfumkunstwerke, we knew that it would be extraordinary. Eo1 contrasts spicy woods with sweet citruses and soft flowers in a blend that is beautifully structured, elegant and luxurious. The opulent juiciness of the top notes (oh how we love the mouthwatering sweet-n-spicy pairing of apricot and cardamom!) gives way to the delicately powdery, child-like softness of iris…That gentleness is deceiving, however, as the iris is soon joined by sizzling pimento and fiery cinnamon. And then cedarwood appears in all its warm, balsamic glory. Enriched by patchouli and vanilla, the woody note in eo1 is truly to die for. This is our holiday treat for the fans of Feminite du Bois and Organza Indecence.
