The Scented Life: All about fragrance

Perfume of the Day: Comptoir Sud Pacifique - Sultan Safran

by Amy on January 3rd, 2008

Today was a particularly cold and loooong day for me. I dabbed on a bit of Sultan Safran perfume. By the time I got to the bus stop I had a nice first impression - clean, soapy on the top but musky and patchouli notes underneath. This scent reminds me of Maude from Harold and Maude. What appears to be a sweet old woman is in fact a looney, freewheeling, free-loving granny. I mean this in a good way!  I didn’t see it as virile at all, but perhaps that’s because I don’t have a man’s body chemistry.  My next experiment might be to have the SO try it on.  Unfortunately,  I didn’t use but a bit and therefore I didn’t get an especially long drydown.  $110/50ml at Luckyscent.

the scoop
Clean and spiced, Sultan Safran opens with a bold and bittersweet green mandarin. Nothing innocent about it, Sultan stakes its claim but never gets mired in thick, old-school masculine spices—this scent remains clean and powerful throughout. Intensely attractive and memorable, the contrast between clean and green, warm and spicy is a tug-of-war that will leave anyone hanging on every turn of this fragrance, waiting to see what comes next. One of the most unique and original fragrances of the entire CSP line. Virile, forthright and absolutely unforgettable.

Sultan Safran notes
bergamot, green mandarin, saffron flower, rose-jasmine-lily of the valley, nutmeg, cinnamon leaf, patchouli, cedar wood, sandalwood, musk
