The Scented Life: All about fragrance

Perfume of the Day: Creed Angelique Encens

by Amy on August 22nd, 2008

angelique_enscene_0.jpgThe bespoke perfume created for Marlene Dietrich, this scent is similarly feminine, mysterious.  So many words could describe it but one actual sniff, the experience of it, really relieves the need for words.  Still, since this is the internet and there’s no smell-o-vision yet,  read this.  Even the lovely and usually very wordy Colombina didn’t have so much to say.   It evokes the art deco period for me - and it should as it’s from 1933.  It doesn’t evoke incense, especially on my skin.  Like the other Creed fragrances, since they’re designed as “signature scents” I guess they assume you have no others and need an 8.4 ounce flacon so you don’t run out amid trips to the continent, etc etc.  Actually per unit $250 is not so expensive, but you had better love it!

I have smelled it on a man and it is definitely a crossover possibility.  Also, another visualization: many fragrances could be designated “multifaceted”.  This one, however, is so smooth and integrated, it’s more like a perfectly round pearl, silent and unknowable.

“A timeless and theatrical blend of angelica, tuberose, amber, incense and vanilla.”
