Perfume of the Day: People of the Labyrinths Luctor et Emergo
This was such a cult fragrance a few years back, it’s nice to revisit those type of scents every now and then. People of the Labyrinths or POTL as it’s often referred to is a dark, complicated fragrance that definitely does not line up in the fruity-floral category. I love scents heavy in amber and woods, and so this fragrance works well with my skin. It’s also highly expensive, at $140 for 100ml. It’s worth a try but I definitely suggest getting a decant to see how you like it.
In 1998 The People of the Labyrinths launched its first perfume Luctor et Emergo. The search for the right combination took three years. The result is a blending together of different scents into one daring, unmistakably personal bouquet of fresh grasses, various white flowers, vanilla and precious woods without losing the characteristics of each component. Alluding to the precious perfumes of the late 19th century it evokes the challenging spirit of sensual curiosity.
The quintessence of decadent lusciousness, Luctor et Emergo is an enviable almagam of fresh grasses, white flowers, incenses, vanilla, almond and cherry—beauteous notes all, but strangely quite different on different skins. It takes on a life of its own (or wraps itself around yours—take your pick) and bestows upon you the signature scent you’ve needed lo these many years. The Holy Grail indeed - your search is over.
