Perfume of the Day: Rose de Siwa by Parfums MDCI
Lord. It’s pretty bad when I reach into my samples bag and come up with something I don’t even remember buying.
My first impression is…confused. I smell the rose, but it’s overpowered by a sort of astringent-soapiness. It calms down soon enough into a kind of rosewater/powder blend, and I do get the peonies, and a hint of clean violet leaf. The vetiver really takes a long time to develop, and I think that’s where the astringency comes from. It’s not very adventurous, not joyful or flirty at all. It floats away into the past leaving behind a trail of baby oil (seriously….?) A perfume for Blanche DuBois…a broken woman, a wilting flower, a shadow.
Definitely not Full Bottle Worthy (FBW), especially at $200-600. I’m glad I only spent $4 on the sample! Do yourself a funny and go read the reviews sniping back and forth about people who pay $600 for perfume. Honestly, I’d give it about 2 stars out of 5. At least it’s not another fruity-floral….!
Rose de Siwa (formerly known as FK No 2) is a woody-floral scent for “moments doux” (soft moments). Named after the flowers of the Siwa Oasis in Egypt, the perfume is delicate and fresh, truly an exhausted traveler’s dream of a paradise in the midst of a hot desert…with beautiful fountains, and luxurious trees and roses fresh with the morning dew. The scent is a charming, playful rhapsody in pink, a joyful, flirty, truly feminine composition that features pink peonies, pink roses, and pink fruits, with violets adding a darker depth to the blend. It winks, it smiles, it twirls in its gauzy, pink dress…what a little charmer!
