Perfumes for Relaxing: Scensoir parfum de reve

by Amy on August 10th, 2007

ce.JPGParfum de Reve (scent of dreams) is how Scensoir (get it?  soir is the French for evening) describes their new trio of perfumes.  Made from essential oils and intended for you to wear to bed in order to promote calm and relaxation, and thus, better sleeping.

The past two nights, I tested the first scent, Ce.  Although Ce has floral notes, it is primarily an interesting fusion of citrus (lemon, orange, petitgrain) with more astringent herbal scents (chamomile, lavender, sage,  thyme).  The scent is quite ‘warm’ and almost has a warming quality on the skin.  I was surprised how quickly my nose got accustomed to it,  but when I came to bed, R. asked if I was wearing some sort of perfume.  I explained my little experiment briefly.

I’m not sure how scientific my experiment was: the past two days have been the hottest in recent memory, and we broke down and turned on the air conditioning, which we have not done unless company is coming over.

Despite the heat (or perhaps because of the air conditioning), I woke up the first morning after the experiment began unusually early - nearly 20 minutes before the first alarm would have gone off.  I also slept very well last night, although this morning I had some sleepiness.  If I have a third night of great sleep, I’m going to say there might actually be something to this.  After all, chamomile tea and lavender essential oil supposedly promote sleepiness.

In any case, the product itself is interesting: 80% naturally derived, and of that 80% is organic (I think that works out to 64% organic…) and it has an organic jojoba oil base.

Wish me luck - I’ll be testing the other two scents (em and el) later on.
