The Scented Life: All about fragrance

Review: Molton Brown White Mulberry fine liquid hand wash

by Amy on March 30th, 2007

Molton Brown is a brand I’m familiar with in stores but hardly ever purchase. I get really excited when I stay in a hotel that offers it as toiletries, though. I received a sample from Spalook.com and thought this would be a great first review on my new site. Molton Brown works hard to appeal to your sense of luxury, and I think that their unusual scent choices really set them apart in the luxury products market.

I have all but sworn off bar soap, and I love a good hand wash by the sink. Extra points if it’s moisturizing, but I use so much hand lotion that it’s not a necessity. Molton Brown says:

Indulge your hands with this cleansing and skin pampering fusion of white mulberry and crisp essential oils. More caring than soap, hands are treated to the natural anti-ageing benefits of white mulberry, while oils of Provencal mimosa, elemi and green tea surround the skin with a luxuriously crisp aroma. 300ml

ingredients
white mulberry tree root
essential oil of elemi
essential oil of Provencal mimosa
essential oil of green tea

The white mulberry tree was grown by the Chinese for several thousand years before being exported to the northern Indies. Here they were discovered by renaissance travelers such as Marco Polo and taken around the world. Extracts of the root help to reduce the signs of skin aging by inhibiting the effect of tyrosinase, an enzyme which synthesize the production of melanin in the skin. This promotes a more even tone.

I didn’t particularly notice my hands looking any more even toned, but the scent is very pleasant. The green tea notes mix well with the light floral notes, and the mulberry root. It smells quite “real”, in that I can absolutely smell the mulberry root - almost like the smell you might remember if you’ve ever snapped, bent, or cut a green twig and smelled the liquid that came out of the twig. It’s very outdoorsy and carefree, and maybe reminds me of my childhood, because we did have two large mulberry trees in our yard. I also accidentally used it as shower gel once and found it pleasant in the shower as well.

Molton Brown offers this product in other scents, including:

blu maquis
celestial maracuja
heavenly gingerlily
naran ji
rosé granati
thai vert
