Summer Scents: Lemon Sugar

by Amy on June 29th, 2007

Like a cordial of limoncello, lemon and sugar can be a refreshing perfume or body spritz in the summer’s soupiest days. Fresh did Lemon Sugar, of course, ten years ago. The notes for Fresh’s perfume are: Italian Bergamot, Yuzu, Mandarin, Lychee Flower, Orange Blossom, Ginger Flower, Oak Moss, Caramel, White Santal. A 1 oz. bottle of the eau de parfum is $22 - considering Fresh’s pricing, not a bad deal. However, for a similar scent with much longer staying power and an exceedingly more fine pedigree, consider Guerlain’s Aqua Allegoria Pamplelune. I just love the golden honeycomb detailing on the bottle, and the perfume itself is par excellence.

More recently, Avon’s sister brand mark. came along with an entire line of lemon sugar scented goodies. I’ve only tried a sample packet of the lotion, but it was enough to intrigue me. This is a much richer lemon and sugar. Depending on your skin chemistry the lemon oils could well go “Mr Clean” on you, but I enjoyed the topnotes and the drydown was vanillic and pleasant. I think the shower gel would be great for a post-run refresher or wake-me-up on a summer morning.
