Tart of the Day: Birthday Cake
I’m just getting back into burning tarts and ‘rediscovering’ my stash of old and new faves. Although it’s nobody’s birthday around here, I had three small Birthday Cake tarts from Epicurious Market. The tarts are highly scented and made with soy wax, so they’re quite soft, especially in the summer. But fortunately soft and soy means they are better for the environment and also pop out of the ramekin quite nicely after 15 minutes or so in the freezer.
R. is at the gym but I’m sure when he gets back the first thing he’ll say is ‘it smells like cake!’ We’re fond of birthday cakes around here, and more recently, birthday cake flavored ice cream from a little shop near the University of Pittsburgh. But for today, the smell of birthday cake will have to suffice.
