Tart of the Day: Flour City Bakery’s Sunshine on the Clothesline
I love tarts and home fragrance, because they’re precisely the opposite of perfumes. A good perfume melds with your skin, and in turn your skin brings out unique characteristics. However, candles are best experienced from a blank slate - nothing to cover up, or hide, but they can influence your mood just the same. This particular scent made me want to clean house, and perhaps the citrus notes inspired me to sit down and finally finish an 8-page essay exam due the next day. Sunshine on the Clothesline is a perfect example of a scent that’s great for tarts, but would be unsuitable for perfume. Clean - like you just buried your face in a wicker basket full of sundried sheets - but sweet, too, with yuzu and orange. This would probably be a mess on my chemistry, as my skin tends to amplify woody, astringent notes. But in my bedroom, it’s like two kinds of sunshine.
